I am Gary R. Somerville, Attorney at Law. I represent criminal defendants and personal injury plaintiffs. My office is located in Newburgh, New York. I represent clients throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills areas, including Ulster, Dutchess, Rockland, Sullivan and Orange Counties.
Criminal Defense
As a former Orange County Assistant District Attorney, I handled a wide variety of criminal cases. I now represent clients who have been charged with crimes at all levels, from common traffic tickets to homicide. If you are facing charges, might be or have been indicted, are the subject of a criminal investigation, are a witness to a crime, or are the victim of a crime, I will represent you.
Personal Injury
I also maintain a personal injury practice, covering all kinds of injuries. The skills that are required to be a prosecuting attorney are the same skills that are required of a personal injury plaintiff's attorney.
Skill that Comes From Experience
Here is what I offer as your attorney. First and foremost, I know the law. Practicing trial law requires up-to-date knowledge of the most recent developments in the law. Second, I know how to work with expert witnesses. Expert testimony must be made simple enough for the jury to understand, without losing its technical accuracy. Next, I have learned to master the details. There is no substitute for hard work and organization. Also, through my years of practice, I have gained ease and confidence in the courtroom, whether before a judge only, or in a jury trial. Finally, when trying a case before a jury, I have learned how to build rapport with a jury. A jury wants to be treated with respect. That's what I do.

I represent my clients vigorously. I am aggressive when the occasion demands, but never to the point that my demeanor would prevent the possibility of a favorable settlement. My only goal is to get you the best possible result. In addition, I am accessible to my clients.
